Distorting - The Facts
The fact that workholding distorts workpieces is a common challenge facing manufacturers. The forces applied while holding the part invariably alter its shape, and when it’s released from the holding device, it typically springs back to its original condition.

Tool extension makes life much easier
The TENDO extension module from Schunk Intec Ltd., Newport Pagnell, has been developed to make life easier for tool makers and die makers. This long, slim hydraulic-expansion extension dispenses with the need for auxiliary equipment and can transform any precision holder into a versatile tool for narrow spaces, independent of the spindle interface.

Add-on valve cuts assembly costs
Schunk has launched a series of miniature pneumatic valves that can be screwed directly into actuators, cutting the cost of hosing between the valve and the actuator. The hose-free assembly reduces wiring for power supplies and signalling, and is said to save compressed air because the supply line does not need to be filled and emptied on each cycle.

ABV add-on valve reduces assembly costs
Schunk has launched a series of miniaturized MV-series pneumatic valves that can be screwed directly into the corresponding actuator to reduce the cost for hosing between the valve and the actuator. This hose-free assembly of the micro valves to the actuators also saves valuable compressed air, as each cycle no longer requires the entire supply line to b filled and emptied, which reduces the cycle times.

Precision all round
An all rounder for the high precision clamping of workpieces on a lathe is the 3-jaw power chuck ROTA NCD from Schunk Intec. According to Schunk, users processing different workpieces on a sungle machine can now significantly reduce set-up times and costs.

Long extension is a lifeline in deep cavities
Innovative module sets standards. Those in the tool and die industry having to carry out precision work in even the deepest of cavities can breathe a sigh of relief. At a recent exhibition, the Lauffen-based toolholding and workholding specialist Schunk Intec presented a long, slim hydraulic expansion extension that dispenses with the need for auxiliary equipment and can transform almost any precision toolholder into a versatile tool for narrow spaces independent of the spindle interface.
